Touch Me and See!

Toward the end of the Second World War, General Dwight D. “Ike” Eisenhower was careful to document his visit to a concentration camp: the visual and testimony evidence of starvation, cruelty and bestiality which portrayed evil beyond what one could fathom. General Eisenhower wrote “I made the visit deliberately, in order to be in position to give first-hand evidence of these things if ever, in the future, there develops a tendency to charge these allegations merely to ‘propaganda.’” At his order, the Holocaust was thoroughly documented and later used as evidence in the Nuremberg trials. Yet it didn’t take long for Holocaust deniers to appear, despite this overwhelming evidence. It also didn’t take long for deniers of Christ’s resurrection to appear despite the overwhelming evidence. After Jesus’ resurrection, Matthew records in his gospel that the Chief Priests and the elders paid off the soldiers who had guarded Jesus’ tomb and promised them protection from the Roman governor, all to get the guards to tell people that Jesus’ body was stolen. Even Thomas, one of the Twelve, rejected the testimony of the other Apostles that Jesus had risen saying, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe” (John 20:25). Lies and doubts about Jesus’ resurrection are still alive and well today and one of the great lies is that Jesus’ resurrection only appeared to be a resurrection, typically under the heretical belief that Jesus was a spirit who only appeared to be a man. So, where do you stand? What do you believe?
