King of kings and Lord of lords
What is the kingdom of God? That’s a great question and there are many facets to a correct answer to that question! But one fascinating facet is how Jesus often refers to the gospel as the “gospel of the kingdom” to include in Matthew 24:14 when Jesus foretells that “this gospel of THE KINGDOM will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations.” But why does Jesus refer to the gospel as the “gospel of the kingdom” and why don’t we refer to it that way? Perhaps because we have lost a complete sense of why the gospel is good news, but it was this kingdom sense of good news that made the message so powerful to Jesus’ Jewish followers. Steeped in the promise and hope that the Messiah would come to restore the kingdom of Israel to the greatness and glory God promised in the Old Testament, Luke draws out the great anticipation of the coming kingdom in Acts 1:3 as he writes “He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about THE KINGDOM OF GOD,” and Jesus’ post resurrection message about the kingdom must have spurred great excitement and anticipation because the Apostles asked Him just before His ascension “Lord, will you AT THIS TIME restore the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6). So, as we begin this journey through Isaiah, looking forward to THAT DAY, let me ask: are you longing for Christ’s kingdom to come? And when you share the gospel, is there a kingdom in your gospel? Isaiah gives us many breathtaking snap shots of His kingdom to come along with the events that immediately lead up to it. So come join us for this sermon series to get the picture! And what better place to begin to see the wonder of it all then with the One who is the wonder of it all: Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords!
We invite you to come join us this Sunday morning for our in-person worship service at Leptondale Bible Church in Newburgh, starting at 10:55 AM.
