Blessed are those who wait for the Lord
In June of 2024, astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore blasted off for the International Space Station on the test flight of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft to spend eight days at the space station. But the Starliner experienced problems with its propulsion system, prompting NASA to send it back to Earth with no crew aboard, leaving astronauts Williams and Wilmore on the Space Station without a return date. In the end, their eight-day trip lasted nine months, coming to an end in March of 2025 when their return space flight splashed down in the calm waters off the coast of the Florida Panhandle, concluding a saga that had left the nation captivated. But while the nation was captivated, Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore waited, living each day with uncertainty over the date of their return home. How do you think you would fare under these conditions? In Isaiah 30:18, Isaiah reminds the people of Israel that God is gracious and merciful, and because of this, he reminds them of a truth we know well yet struggle to practice: “blessed are all those who wait for him.” This Sunday’s passage applies this truth to the people of Israel by showing them something worth waiting for. But what might that be and what will the waiting entail?
We invite you to come join us this Sunday morning for our in-person worship service at Leptondale Bible Church in Newburgh, starting at 10:55 AM. For those unable to attend, our service can be viewed live on the church’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/leptondalebiblechurch. This Sunday, we’ll continue a series from Isaiah titled “In That Day: The Kingdom in Isaiah.” This Sunday’s message from Isaiah 30:18-26 is titled “Blessed are those who wait for the Lord.”
God bless!
