Listen to Him!

Back in December of 2004, Tilly Smith and her family were on their first family vacation on the beach in Thailand. Two weeks prior to their vacation, Tilly had learned about tsunamis in her geography class which proved to be lifesaving knowledge. As Tilly and her family walked the beach on the day after Christmas, she noticed the waves going out but not coming in and alerted her parents to the imminent danger. At first they were dismissive, but Tilly persisted as she repeatedly shouted across the beach, “There’s going to be a tsunami!” Do you think the people listened to young Tilly? Eventually they did once Tilly convinced a security guard to believe her and then shouted for people to get off the beach. The tsunami on that day killed an estimated 230,000 people, but not one person from Tilly's beach died that we know of. Tilly's dad, in shock after learning of the horrific devastation and suffering, said to Tilly, “What if we hadn't listened to you?” One of Peter’s central life experiences had all the shock and awe of a tsunami: his eyewitness to the transfiguration of our Lord Jesus and that moment recorded in Matthew 17:5 when the Father said from heaven “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him”! But what if people, even church people, won’t listen to Jesus? To what other voice or authority can they turn to if they reject Him? To what other voice or authority can YOU turn to if YOU reject Him? And what happens if YOU don’t listen to Him?

We invite you to come join us this Sunday morning for our in-person worship service at Leptondale Bible Church in Newburgh, starting at 10:55 AM. For those unable to attend, our service can be viewed live on the church’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/leptondalebiblechurch. This Sunday, we’ll continue a series from 2nd Peter titled “Partakers of the Divine Nature.” This Sunday’s message from 2nd Peter 1:12-21 is titled “Listen to Him!”

God bless!

Pastor Mike
