September 2009
Dear friends,
Phil & I just returned from a 10-week “home assignment” in the United States and Canada. It was a great time – we saw lots of great friends and family, and it was so good to touch base and share our hearts with you. Thanks for opening your homes to us, sharing your time with us…letting our teenage kids eat your yummy food and for all the fun memories we made.

Some of you know that Phil and I have been involved in a running group organized through our church. This summer some of us have been training for our toughest but certainly most scenic marathon we have ever run - the Jungfrau Marathon. It begins in Interlaken, Switzerland, goes 42km/26 miles, and climbs 1800 meters/5700 ft. This will be my 8th and Phil’s 3rd marathon…..if we manage to survive and finish!

Check out the website http://www.jungfraumarathon.ch/ws2/de/pararace/

This time around we’d love to use our running to help some people with great needs. We want to do this by contributing to a relief organization that my “cousin-in-law” Doug Hayes is heading up in Africa (Uganda, Zambia, & Ethiopia). He has set up a “Run-for-African Relief” sponsorship program. It would be extremely gratifiying for us to know that the marathon we are about to run could be a big help for someone else. Here are some ways your sponsorship of a one-time gift could help.

• $10 can buy a treated mosquito net for a child (for malaria prevention)
• $50 pays for school fees for one term (trimester) at a school.
• $100 can buy a nice, durable bicycle for our Secondary School students who currently walk many miles to school everyday. Riding a bike for their commute would literally save them hours everyday, time they need to invest in their studies.
• Every gift of $100 can provide the food budget for an entire month at one of our children's homes(10 people) (to supplement what they're able to get from the sustainable sources on-site).
• $250 can buy a milking cow for one of our children's homes, to provide nutritious milk for the children year-round (we currently have one milking cow for our five homes)

To find out more about what they are doing, look at their website at www.covenantmercies.org.

So if you’d like to encourage us by supporting others, drop us a line with your name, address, email, and mention the amount you’d like to contribute. Then mail your check (made payable to Covenant Mercies) to Covenant Mercies, One Fellowship Drive, Glen Mills, PA 19342, USA.

You can also give securely online at www.covenantmercies.org/onetimegift   (include “Phil & Tammy Peters” in the comments field).

Think and pray for us on Saturday the 5th of September (it’s only a few days away!) The marathon starts at 9am (European time). We have a maximum of 6:30 hours to complete it. Would love to have great weather!!! Of course we will let you know how our “Big Day” went…if we are still alive to tell about it!
